Microsoft has been testing a lot of features internally for its upcoming device, Surface phone. The entire windows phone community and a large number of geeks are eagerly waiting for the new device. According to Microsoft, The new device won’t be called a phone, instead, it will define a new category of devices, just like that surface line defined 2-in-1’s. As per what we know about the new device, It qualifies to be a Pocket PC & with the latest patent, it’s going to be much better than iPhone X.
Apple’s recently launched it’s iPhone X. An all screen device and a cool new “Face id” feature. But it’s a huge disappointment to the geek world, Apple skipped the rumoured on-screen fingerprint scanner in it’s iPhone X. Be it because of software limitations or whether to push the boundaries further, Apple chose to go with the “Face id” alone.
Microsoft working on what Apple failed to do with iPhone X
But Microsoft surprised everyone with a new patent.
Microsoft has been working on a new device category, possibly surface phone, & testing a whole lot of features internally. Though as per Microsoft, The new device won’t be called a phone it will define a new category for devices just the surface devices brought 2-in-1 category.
It’s been known that the upcoming device comes with a foldable display which supports 3D touch and a gesture-based fingerprint scanner. It’s also rumoured multiple times that Microsoft is working on a completely different on-screen fingerprint scanner technology.
Microsoft’s Surface Phone is going to be better than iPhone X
Seems like finally, we know what is going to make the Surface phone better than iPhone X.
A recently published Microsoft patent reveals a new type of On-screen finger print scanner. According to the patent, The mobile device is equipped with a special kind of display with a built-in fingerprint sensor where it detects the finger (object) without being in contact with the surface of the display. Microsoft is calling this “OFF-Surface image sensing”.
The device uses the cover glass as a waveguide, Microsoft notes that the “light received from the object can be transmitted through the waveguide display to an image sensor within the electronic device”. Not only the fingerprint but many other objects can also be captured using the technology, however, it is apparently designed for fingerprint scanning.
The system can sense a fingerprint within several millimetres from the mobile display, Microsoft believes that this system can lead to faster logins. Microsoft gives an example of a mobile device ” authenticate a user and initiate the login process before the user’s finger even contacts the device”. If the fingers are not hygienic or potentially dirty or infectious, this system will help the user.
Microsoft has already provided the feature of retina scanning with Windows Hello & Now it’s a new kind of fingerprint scanner. Clearly, Microsoft is making news with its innovative ideas under the leadership of Satya Nadella taking forward the technology. Hope to see this feature integrated into the end device.
